Spotlight on Pipeline Safety at Major Sembcorp Seminar
28th July 2005
A major UK seminar on pipeline safety is to be held on Teesside in September.
The UK Pipeline Safety Seminar has been organised by utilities and services provider Sembcorp Utilities UK and is aimed at helping delegates understand issues around the latest pipeline safety standards and the views of the regulator on pipeline safety.
Speakers include representatives from the British Standards Institute (BSI) the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) the United Kingdom Onshore Pipelines Association (UKOPA), the Institute of Gas Engineers and Managers (IGEM), the Pipeline Industry Guild (PIG) and LINEWATCH.
Sembcorp carries out design, project management, construction, operations management and inspection on hundreds of miles of pipelines containing a wide range of petrochemical, gas and liquid products through its sub-business, SembUtilities Solutions.
It also supplies utilities such as power and steam, plus a wide range of essential services, including emergency response and asset protection, to many of the international companies based on its sites at Wilton and Jurong Island in Singapore.
The seminar is to be held at the Phoenix Centre on the Wilton International site on the 20th of September and covers all aspects of the onshore pipeline industry.
Paul Docherty, a member of BSI Pipeline 17.2 committee and Mechanical Engineering Manager at SembUtilities Solutions, organised the conference.
He said: “It is one of the biggest events relating to safety for the onshore pipeline industry in the UK this year.
“The seminar features the UK standards body, experts from the leading pipeline owners association, regulatory bodies, and many of the pipeline industry’s safety experts. It will be a great opportunity to share best practice on pipeline safety.”
SembUtilities Solutions is anticipating around 100 attendees at the event, which precedes a two-day UKOPA conference, also being held at the Phoenix Centre, on 21st and 22nd September.
