Sembcorp Storeman Wins Prestigious National Title
9th June 2005
A storeman at the Wilton International site has been named Warehouse Person of the Year 2005.
Glen Doyle, who works for Sembcorp Utilities UK, lifted the title at the 2005 UK Warehousing Association Awards in London – the storage industry “Oscars”.
The 31-year-old is part of a Sembcorp services team managing around 500,000 square feet of storage space at the site. The Stores area houses around 60,000 separate items worth millions of pounds for customers including Huntsman, Dow and INVISTA. The team can deliver many large, business-critical items to customers in less than two hours.
Glen was one of only three people to have been shortlisted for the award at the Savoy Hotel from the thousands of warehouse operators throughout the UK. The judges were looking for excellence in performance, consistent commitment and drive and contribution to the corporate strategy.
Glen, of Aviemore Road, Hemlington, said: “It’s great to have won such a prestigious award. I really didn’t expect it. It’s a great honour for me personally, but it also reflects all the hard work carried out by my colleagues at Sembcorp too.”
Ian Tulloch, Stores Manager at Sembcorp Utilities UK, said: “Glen is an extremely professional storeman who has frequently gone the extra mile to ensure our business succeeds. To be honoured in this way is a fantastic achievement for him and the business.”
Glen was nominated because he played a key role in Sembcorp’s move to bar code items at the Stores, ranging from small items of personal safety clothing and equipment to large engineering parts critically important to the smooth running of plants. The move has greatly improved delivery times.
He was also instrumental in managing the movement of materials coming onto the site in connection with Sembcorp’s recent £20 million Gas Turbine investment at Wilton Power Station, ensuring that items arrived on time, in condition and were distributed to the correct area.
