Power
Sembcorp can provide electricity from its own 194 MW facility to major plants at 11kV as well as supplying customers at 66kV from its bulk supply point connection to the National Grid. Because the plant is approved as a 'Good Quality' combined heat and power plant under the CHP QA (Combined Heat and Power Quality Assurance) registration scheme, it is exempt from Climate Change Levy on fuels supplied to it and the electricity generated by it.
In addition to the Gas Turbine, the station currently has two operational high pressure (HP) boilers, each capable of producing a continuous maximum rate of 280 tonnes per hour of steam at 1700 psig. Each boiler is connected to a primary turbine generator set with a 33MW electrical rating, and intermediate pressure (IP) steam from these is either exported for site distribution, or processed through three secondary turbine sets. Low pressure (LP) steam is also available for site distribution from the secondary turbines giving added generation flexibility.
The power plant has seen a considerable amount of investment in recent years. In 2001 the Number 6 Boiler (mothballed in 1997) was extensively refurbished and restored to coal operation. In 2002, a more efficient modern unit replaced one of the secondary turbines. A major automation project involving boiler, turbine and ancillary equipment was completed in 2002 and the Gas Turbine project was completed in 2004.
The electrical distribution system at Wilton, which is one of the largest privately owned systems in the world, is connected to the National Grid and TPL power station at a bulk supply point via four 275 kV to 66kV National-Grid owned transformers, each with a 180MVA rating.
Steam
Sembcorp provides around four million tonnes a year of high pressure (HP) intermediate pressure (IP) and low pressure (LP) steam to customers at Wilton.
IP Steam is supplied to the customers through a comprehensive steam distribution network which is fed by Wilton Power Station.
